High Quality Bermudagrass

Bermudagrass....the staple forage of the South. Our hay is baled at 14-16% moisture and our bales average 50-55 lbs in weight. All of our fields are weed-free and fertilized appropriately (pH targets of 6.0-6.2 and heavy N/P/K in the Spring and N & K after each cutting.....not just a Spring and Summer application like some often do). We offer 3 varieties of Bermudagrass (Alicia, Russell, and Tift 85) to fit your horse's needs. The finer, more palatable Alicia is a great choice for your easy keeper. Russell is a bit more coarse and is a good step up for horses that need a little more stem thickness. And, Tift 85 is our most coarse hay, but also holds the highest protein content of all Bermudagrasses. 3 types of bermudagrass....because no 2 horses are the same.

Perennial Peanut Hay

The "Alfalfa of The South". Our perennial peanut hay is our pride and joy. With protein content near top level alfalfa, perennial peanut is an excellent alternative for horses that demand the best. Whether your maintaining a sporting horse or looking to add weight, perennial peanut is a fantastic, affordable choice. Perennial peanut is packed full of protein-rich leaves that have been harvested at the peak of nutritional maturity. We typically get 2 cuttings per year, using the crop's domancy in the Spring to take advantage of an agressive weed management and minor element fertilization program. We take pride in producing the best perennial peanuts we can, and we hope it shows!

About Our Farm

Owned and Operated by Michael Hood, Hood Hay Farm is a family oriented farm that has been in the high-quality horse hay business since the 1990s. Now a medium sized hay producer, we bale 30,000 square bales and 500 round bales annually. Expanding into delivery in the mid-2000s, we now service the entire Southeast Coast, from Jacksonville to Charleston. All of our hay is baled with horses in mind, and we cut no corners...fertilizing properly and keeping our fields clean and pure with a rigorous herbicide and pesticide program. We pour our heart and soul into producing the best hay that we can. We thank God for his blessings and we love the opportunity He has given us to produce hay alongside our family.
